Blowing up in the Philippines

Balloon Ventures has partnered with the British Council in the Philippines to pilot the programme in Baguio City this year.

We have recruited 12 fellows from the UK and China who will be working with 23 local entrepreneurs, ranging from ages 19 to 36.

From charity canteens to digital marketing services and agriculture, the entrepreneurs are across a range of sectors and at a range of stages of their businesses – looking to start up or grow. They will then get the opportunity to pitch for a grant of 25,000PhP at the end of the programme on the 26th August.

Thursday 21st July saw the fellows meeting the entrepreneurs for the first time.  We hosted the entrepreneur induction at the Baguio Convention Centre and brought everyone together for some traditional Baguio food: Pancit (noodles) and lumpiang sariwa (pancake spring rolls).

The entrepreneurs learnt about the work the British Council do as well as more about the Balloon programme and it was great to see how excited everyone was to get started.

The fellows finish their intensive entrepreneurship training this week then it is full steam ahead with the first group sessions starting on Monday!

There is excitement growing across the country and we have already been featured in national press.
