The Balloon poem series – Balloons are rising

The first in our series of Balloon poems. Eldoret Team Leader, Samuel Black, kicks things off with Balloons are Rising.

Released from fields and urban scenes

Balloons are rising, streams of teams

Divergent colours, here to stay

Harmonised t-shirts, blue and grey

Atmospherically drawn

Balloons are rising, dusk till dawn

With virile, effervescent glee

They live and bleed the BMC

A cultural mesh of cloudy binds

Balloons are rising, a blend of minds

To those who stereotype I say

You’re different too. Mzungu ni wewe!

Our balloons glide freely, together as one

Ten weeks of striving, before burst and gone

Although lives are twisted, stressed and swirled

We challenge ourselves and change the world
